Inspired by the golden years of renaissance, which mark the rebirth of art, architecture, music, couture and theatre from the medieval ages to modernity, Shyamal and Bhumika’s latest couture collection features colourful silk threads in delicate embroideries that adorn lustrous silks.
A slight departure from traditional fashion, the collection is evocative of Shyamal and Bhumika’s signature cutwork edging and painterly florals which come alive in timeless bridal couture for both men and women.
Pieces such as exquisite bias cut skirts with sensuous cholees, shararas, kalidaar paneled lehengas, sheer organza sarees for women, and sherwanis and structured jackets for men, come alive in a myriad of jewel tones.
Details include sensuous shoulder baring blouses, asymmetric hemlines, cowl detailing, intricately crafted veils, poet sleeves; and fabrics such as georgettes & translucent tulles for women and hand woven tussars, matkas and moonga variety of silks feature for menswear.
With their Couture 2019 collection, Shyamal and Bhumika celebrate the notion of ‘India to the World’, by giving employment to various artisans and craftsmen and thereby maintaining a connect between their global aesthetic of today and India’s age old craft techniques.
“This collection is extremely special to us, we have utilised the most elaborate handwork embroideries in couture by modernising Indian traditional crafts. It is an attempt to give a better modernising outlook through trend-centric offerings and a timeless iconic bridal looks inspired by our love for colour, texture, meadows and gardens. Our collection signifies a wonderful connection between conventional and present day India,” Shyamal and Bhumika said, about their collection.
The designer duo have collaborated with Jewels of Jaipur for their ‘Renaissance Muse’collection, who have designed jewellery inspired by Noor Jahan – an epitome of beauty and grace. Titled ‘Annora’, the jewellery collection features precious stones such as emerald, sapphires and rubies with polki jewellery made in 18kt yellow gold.
The showstopper for the collection was Kriti Sanon, who sported an intricately embroidered lehenga-cholee ensemble which featured very on-trend poufy sleeves. “I am really excited to have been Shyamal and Bhumika’s muse this year. With their distinct vision and stunning craftsmanship, they have carved a special place in my heart. I resonate with their designs truly capture the essence of Indian romanticism, like no other,” Kriti Sanon said.
