A confluence of idyllic summers and nature’s blossoming freshness marked the closing of the Sustainable Fashion Day at Lakmé Fashion Week S/R’19 with Anita Dongre’s collection, ‘A Summer Reverie’ in collaboration with TENCEL™.

Drawing inspiration from the first rays of summer, the collection was developed using sustainable blends of TENCEL™ fibres with silk, sewn into light and flowy silhouettes. A mosaic of fresh floral hues of yellow, apricot, seafoam, surf blue, onion pink and blush, complementing prints strewn in pista green, marigold yellow, misty blue, champagne pink and cheerful lavender made the collection emblematic of the blooming flora of summer.

Floral-motifs were embroidered over detailed, yet easy silhouettes ranging from light-weight lehengas, colourful maxi dresses to gorgeous jumpsuits and beautiful crop tops along skirts separates, were on display.

Finding the correct aesthetical balance between the womenswear and menswear line, Anita Dongre presented kurtas and bundies using TENCEL™ fabrics embodying joyful multihued prints, to keep the summer mood on a high.

Highlights of the collection included ensembles ranging from small and big floral motif ethnic occasion-wear with progressive silhouettes such as front open shrugs, fringed-sarees, structured dupattas and skirts ending in tulles and tiers for womenswear. Menswear boasted of statement clothing encompassing of short jackets and blazers layered with sherwanis in gender fluid hues.

Commenting on the collaboration and the collection that it churned out, Avinash Mane, Commercial Head, South Asia, Lenzing AG said, “Over the past few years, we have witnessed a transformation in sustainability in terms of fashion where it has taken a center-stage for mainstream discussion. Consumers are now understanding what goes into the making of their clothes and even looking at alternative fashion options.”

He added, “With an increase in consumer awareness of the ecological strain, sustainability is the need of the hour. We are delighted at the response we’ve received for our associations at Lakme Fashion Week and look forward to associating with more designers and brands besides the other successful brands we have already partnered with. We at Tencel have always believed in driving innovation to create sustainable products and will continue to partner with designers in this mission. We hope to continue our consistent focus on reinforcing the importance of ethical clothing and identifying ways to create interest amongst Indian consumers to consider sustainable collection.”
