With the menswear shows past us and the womenswear RTW yet to start, Team FFT rounded up some of the techniques and treatments being given to denim at various trade shows, fairs and exhibitions.

Showcases for the approaching Spring/Summer 2018 season were in full swing at the recently concluded Denim by Premiere Vision, WWD Magic, Project, Liberty and Capsule trade events and where presentations by emerging and well established names lent us ample inspiration to chew on.

Denim has seen an evolution of sorts from initially being regarded as a durable workwear essential to its widespread inclusion as everyday live-in jeans. The advance of the fabric from classic to contemporary is an interesting journey altogether and each season provides innovation in terms of denim’s impact on the fashion industry as a whole.

Denim-on-denim looks are re-energized with techniques such as tie & dye and colour blocking whereas athleisure is brought to the fore with the incorporation of hi-tech and performance properties over denim staples. A departure from traditional blues is taken with a nod towards bleached out washes, indigo dyes and worn-out green tint effects.

Focus on texture and surface treatment is brought about by frayed and shredded details, embroidered motifs and exposed hardware.

FFT has brought together 8 key trend directions in denim for the upcoming S/S’18 for the womenswear and menswear market segment, to inform about your next sourcing decisions. Events and trade shows are analyzed in depth to provide you the relevant trends that bear longevity and are commercially viable to the industry.
