US $ 13,000 or Rs. 8 Lakh is the average expenditure made by an exporter who participates at ‘Sourcing at Magic fair, Las Vegas’. It is not only about money… it is also about the time taken out for promotion and the expectation for business. But sadly, the preparation that goes into the participation and the actual presentation of the Indian pavilion is a sham(e). Many participants shared that stalls were very badly organized and cramped up; exhibitors had an attitude of a picnic with their chairs set out on the corridors and enjoying gupshup. Further, most of the Indian stalls resembled a kiosk in a local ‘mela’; the ambience of a global player was missing… then how do we expect the buyers to take us seriously. The Chinese pavilion on the other hand had a serious ambience with few but trend-focused products. Along with the organizers who take the delegation, exporters too are responsible for the bad impression.
